Face Peels & Chemical Peels

Over time, our skin can experience significant damage and play host to several prominent signs of ageing such as wrinkles, discolouration and areas of hyperpigmentation. And whilst several skincare brands claim to be able to solve these common issues, those that use them are usually disappointed with the limited results that these products so often achieve.

At Face Medical Clinic, Heywood, we offer a number of invigorating chemical peels from the highly regarded ZO Skin Health range. By peeling away the layers of skin affected by both the ageing process and a selection of other environmental factors, these sophisticated chemical solutions can leave patients with skin that looks fresher, healthier and revitalised.

At Face Medical, we always make sure that we hold an in-depth consultation with all of our patients before offering them treatment or allowing them to purchase skincare products from us. By doing this, we gain a greater understanding of your individual requirements and will work alongside you to create a bespoke treatment plan that is best suited to your needs. As ZO Skin Health products can only be prescribed by skincare professionals, this ensures that we take every appropriate measure to determine whether the chemical peels we offer are right for you and your skin.

Types of chemical peel

As a means of helping patients to achieve brighter, softer and smoother skin, ZO’s chemical peels work to stimulate the skin at both an epidermal and dermal level to enact a positive change in skin function and improve the rate at which it renews itself. To achieve these outcomes, our skincare experts specialise in performing several different ZO chemical peels, all of which vary in strength and intensity depending on your desired results. For mild concerns such as light discolouration and dull-looking skin, we recommend that you choose a superficial option such as the ZO Stimulator Peel. This is a gentler form of peel that focuses on the exfoliation of the epidermis, which is the outermost layer of skin and is a treatment provided free of charge if you have signed up to the Getting Skin Ready skincare programme. Medium peels are advised for those looking to remedy persistent issues with pigmentation such as age spots and freckles and can also be used to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. As the most aggressive form of treatment in this range, deep peels are highly adept at tackling problems that are more firmly entrenched, including deep wrinkles, several types of scar and pre-existing skin conditions such as melasma. It should be noted that deeper peels can only be performed once.

The after-effects of your treatment will differ depending on its intensity and the practitioner carrying out your chemical peel will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions at the end of your appointment. More superficial peels will not require a lot of recovery time and you should be free to go about your routine as normal in the hours after treatment. With a medium peel, certain areas of your skin may turn red or brown and remain like this for up to six weeks. In terms of deep peels, patients may experience peeling and soreness up to a few days after treatment and encounter redness and swelling for anywhere between two weeks and three months.

Will it hurt?

This will depend on your individual pain tolerance… Patients often report a stinging sensation when undergoing a chemical peel but these procedures aren’t usually overly painful.

How soon until I see results?

This can vary from patient to patient, but results are normally visible right away. For better results, one of our skincare specialists may recommend that you undergo multiple chemical peels spaced a few weeks apart.

How much will my chemical peel cost?

This will be discussed with you during your free consultation at Face Medical.

Are chemical peels for me?

As chemical peels can help you achieve brighter, younger-looking skin free from the most visible impressions of age, we highly recommend them to anyone looking to experience a significant skin rejuvenation.

Can they be used with other treatments?

Yes. As is typical of the ZO Skin Health range, these chemical peels can be used to complement other skincare products and programmes. This will be discussed with you in more detail during your consultation.
