Introduction to our face to face or online service

For both men and women, it is so important that we have have a balanced endocrine system. When our hormones are balanced, we feel more in control; we are much healthier, and our energy levels are a lot higher.

*See our sister site: The Menopause Clinic: Bioidentical hormones*

Keeping our hormones balanced can be much easier said than done as we get older; this is  because there is a natural decline in hormones such as oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone as we age. If you are experiencing any of the following conditions, then you may benefit from BHRT (bioidentical hormone replacement therapy)  here at Face Medical Clinic:

  • Hot flushes
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Mood swings
  • Memory loss
  • Low libido
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Night sweats
  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Osteoporosis
  • Wrinkled skin
  • Dry skin

Symptoms of menopause transition

Symptoms can begin at as early as 35 years old, but are more likely to come to light in a woman’s mid to late forties, and the length and time of these symptoms can vary from woman to woman.

Through a simple blood test we can determine which hormones you are deficient in and prescribe bespoke bio- identical hormone therapy (BHRT) medicine.

perimenopause

Premenopause is pretty self explanatory, and can last for up to 10 years, and ends one year after your last menstrual cycle, which is the official start of the menopause. Perimenopause literally means “around the time of the menopause”, and is used interchangeably with premenopause.

Symptoms include:

Mood swings
Fatigue
Anger and irritability
Anxiety
Hot flushes
Memory loss
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Anaemia
Weight gain
Bloating
Fluid retention
Breast tenderness
Aches and painful joints
Frequent headaches
Urinary incontinence
Vaginal dryness
Low libido

Postmenopause

If a woman hasn’t any menstrual flow for over a year, and your ovaries have become inactive, then she is postmenopausal. Postmenopausal symptoms are similar to those above, but with a few more to look out for:

Hot flushes and night sweats
Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
Changes in mood
Feeling depressed or overtired
Difficulty concentrating or poor memory
Changes to the vagina, such as dryness, discomfort, itching and pain during sex
Loss of interest in sex (loss of libido)
Urinary problems – such as recurrent urinary tract infections, loss of bladder control (urinary incontinence)
Joint aches and pains.

Treating all stages of menopause at Face Medical Clinic

Every woman is unique, just like her hormones! At Face Medical Clinic, our experienced team led by Deborah Vines can create a bespoke hormone replenishment plan tailored to each patient after a thorough consultation.

Consultation

The first step when seeking BHRT at Face Medical or The Menopause Clinic will be an in-depth and comprehensive consultation with Deborah Vines which can either be a face to face appointment or by telephone which includes a at home blood sample kit which comes with how to use instructions. This will cover your medical history, lifestyle factors, nutrition and health risks, as well as any other queries or concerns that you may have about the treatment. This will be followed by a health check and a set of blood tests, which assess your hormone and vitamin D levels.

The Procedure

Depending on the results from your health check at the initial consultation, additional tests for women may be recommended, which include: mammogram, ultrasound scan of the uterus, and a DEXA scan for bone density. For men, additional tests can include: chest x-rays, MRI scans, and a DEXA scan for bone density.

If the blood tests and additional tests determine that you could benefit from BHRT, then Deborah will create a bespoke and custom-tailored treatment plan including hormones and supplements.

All bio-identical hormone treatments that are prescribed by Deborah Vines at Face Medical Clinic are bespoke and individually tailored to suit each patient’s needs and requirements. They come in the form of creams, lozenges or capsules, depending on which is most suitable. The bio-identical hormones are 100% identical in chemical structure to those that are found naturally in the human body, but are derived from plants, and are based on a substance known as “Diosgenin”, which comes from  yams.

Aftercare

Following your treatment, there will be a two month review with Deborah, which will enable her to assess your progress and make any adjustments to your medication as necessary. There will then be a six-month review, in which Deborah will  conduct another full assessment of your treatment, and perform any further testing if required and to determine your progress.

Men’s Health

It is a common misconception that hormones are not as important for men as they are for women. Andropause is the male equivalent of menopause and has become more openly discussed in the media in recent years. Men may experience a loss of energy, libido and drive, and may feel a bit lost or start to question aspects of their lives.

At the Face Medical Clinic in Heywood, we can offer our patients bio-identical hormone therapy, which are very beneficial to patients who have a hormone imbalance or have experienced undesired side effects with other hormonal medications, including HRT.
