What are spider veins?

Spider or thread veins are tiny dilated blood vessels under the skin that appear as a web of red or purple lines—hence the name.

What causes spider veins?

Facial thread veins are harmless and extremely common; most of us have one or two.

There are thought to be many causes, including hormonal changes during pregnancy and the menopause, sun exposure and alcohol consumption.

Thread veins are always more obvious on fair skin, and inheritance plays a part in their development.

Short Wave Diathermy for spider vein removal, Manchester

At Face Medical, we use Short Wave Diathermy to reduce the appearance of thread veins on the face.

Short-wave Diathermy is a quick, safe, and highly effective means of thread vein removal. The treatment process involves passing a high-frequency current through unwanted veins using a fine probe.

The current cauterises the veins, causing them to break down and be absorbed back into the body.

The probe is so tiny, and our skin experts are so skilled that it does not impact the surrounding skin.

Does the treatment have an immediate effect?

You may notice a slight improvement in the appearance of unsightly thread veins straightaway, but the full effects of treatment will develop over the next few weeks.

How many treatments will I need at the Manchester clinic?

If your thread veins are extensive, you may need more than one treatment for optimal results.

Treatments take place a few weeks apart to gauge the full effect of the initial treatment and assess what more needs to be done.

Will my thread veins disappear completely?

It is not always possible to eradicate spider veins.

However, our Manchester patients usually experience a 60-80% reduction in the appearance of their dilated blood vessels, dramatically improving the skin’s clarity.

Is thread vein removal permanent?

The unwanted veins removed cannot grow back, but if you are prone to the condition, further spider veins may appear.

Many of our Manchester clients have top-up thread vein treatment to keep their skin clear.

Is vein removal painful?

Vein removal is not painful but can be uncomfortable, so we always offer numbing cream to ensure you remain comfortable during your treatment.

Will the same treatment remove leg thread veins?

Spider veins do occur in other areas apart from the face; however, varicose veins, which are commonly seen on the legs, are not suitable for this method of vein treatment.

Varicose veins are usually due to a more serious issue with the veins and may require surgical intervention.

How much does it cost to remove spider veins?

Spider vein removal in Manchester costs from £65 for a fifteen-minute session.
