Developing wrinkles is a common symptom of ageing skin. Both the surface and the deeper layers of the complexion will experience changes in structure, which can impact the way your skin looks and feels.
Lines and wrinkles, and volume loss can become visible on all areas of the face. However, when looking for a treatment to help reduce their appearance, practitioners will consider where these concerns have developed, as well as the cause of their formation.
At Face Medical in Heywood, near Manchester, we often reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles through the use of dermal fillers, Ellansé fillers or anti-wrinkle injections.
When would we recommend the use of fillers?
Both dermal fillers and Ellansé fillers can be used in places where the skin has lost volume; creating thin, weak skin that has also become wrinkled. Both of these treatments are effective when placed in the cheeks, lips and around the mouth. It is more common in these areas for the cause of volume loss and creases in the skin to primarily result from the declining levels of collagen and elastin that occurs naturally as we get older.
Dermal fillers are made using a high concentration of hyaluronic acid, which integrates with the tissues beneath the skin to help increase its levels of hydration. When the skin contains more moisture it appears fuller, which also helps to create a smoother texture. As a treatment that works to provide additional volume, dermal fillers are also a great solution for enhancing the definition of features that are less volumised or do not have the shape or clarity that one would like. The smooth gel improves conditions such as: naturally thin lips, a misshapen nose, a weak jawline or flat-looking cheeks by creating a fuller internal structure.
Ellansé fillers can be effective on many areas of the face where lines, wrinkles and volume loss have started to appear. As well as instantly noticeable results, this treatment will often be longer-lasting than traditional dermal fillers. Ellansé is injected at a deeper level in the skin, and works as a biostimulator. This means it triggers the production of new collagen, which creates fuller skin and improves elasticity. The results develop over a period of several months when the treated area naturally becomes more rejuvenated.
When would we recommend anti-wrinkle injections?
Like dermal fillers or Ellansé fillers, anti-wrinkle injections can effectively reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. However, this particular treatment is used when the wrinkles are caused by both ageing skin and muscle movement. Typically the muscles on the forehead and around the eyes and mouth will pull on the skin when moving the face. Internally, a groove is formed in the tissues which the overlying skin sits in, forming a wrinkle. As we age and the muscles become taut this groove becomes permanent, and so does the wrinkle. Anti-wrinkle injections can work both to soften the movement of the muscles and to relax them. As a result the wrinkle appears dramatically reduced, and in some cases will disappear altogether. The wrinkles that anti-wrinkle injections are generally used to treat include: crow’s feet, forehead lines, smile lines / nasolabial folds (nose to mouth lines) and frown lines.
When looking to rejuvenate your appearance and reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, you may feel that one of these treatments is required. A consultation at Face Medical can assess your concerns and analyse the condition of your skin, so that an accurate recommendation is made. Whether dermal fillers, Ellansé fillers or anti-wrinkle injections are suggested for you, you can feel confident that a fresh and rejuvenated appearance will be achieved.
