Acne is a blanket term for a large number of skin conditions that cause spots or pimples on the skin, usually on the face, back and chest. Due to the many factors that can cause acne, it affects a large number of the population, and can be unsightly, embarrassing, or even cause discomfort in some cases.
Get in TouchThe most frequent cause for acne is a change or imbalance in hormone levels, which is why it is commonly associated with puberty, but can continue into the late twenties and beyond. Most people will suffer with acne at some point in their life. Over-secretion of oil, or blocking of the pores, are common instigators that can cause breakouts. External factors, such as pollution, headgear, or frequent touching of the face can also act as aggregators for acne sufferers.
There are several different types of acne, the most common being acne vulgaris. Of the six most common forms of acne, blackheads and whiteheads are a result of clogged pores, with differing appearances depending on whether or not the oil is exposed to air. Papules are small, painful red bumps that become pustules when they fill with pus. Nodules are large, painful lumps that form under the skin, and cysts are a severe form of pus-filled acne that look similar to boils in appearance.
At Face Medical Clinic, we offer a range of treatments designed to control spot-prone skin and reduce the appearance of acne which include Demalux LED Phototherapy, Biretix medi grade skin products.
